Accession Day Mina Salman Bahrain was to witness a rare sight as Her Majesties Ships Atherstone, Chiddingfold, Grimsby and Pembroke marked Accession Day with a full Dress Ship. Accession Day celebrates the anniversary of HRH Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne on the 6 of February 1952. It is rare for all four OP TELIC MCMs to be alongside at the same time and more so that they were all able to dress ship overall. The dress ship is achieved by hoisting dressing lines made up of signal flags and pennants suspended from the Jack Staff to the Mainmast and Mainmast to Ensign Staff. Accession Day is one of only 5 official dates when ships of the Royal Navy dress overall, the others include: Commonwealth Day, Coronation Day, the Queen’s Birthday and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Birthday.
