Keep it Clean Plea!

As part of the Keep Wales Tidy managed Tidy Towns Project, two unsightly litter ‘hotspots’ in Pembrokeshire have been completely removed. The varied sites included littered streams, despoiled tracts of woodland and large areas of flytipped common land which have now been restored to their former natural beauty. Specialist contractors employed by Keep Wales Tidy have just completed work in Pembrokeshire and the sites benefiting from clearance were Devon Drive, Pembroke and Castle Quarry, Monkton. The contractors removed items such as gas bottles, tyres, car parts, garden waste and other household waste dumped by lazy residents. In total, 17 tonnes of litter was removed from the areas, of which almost 14 tonnes have been recycled.

Mari Williams, community project officer at Keep Wales Tidy appealed to those guilty of littering to keep it clean!
“Unfortunately, certain areas in Pembrokeshire have a problem with litter and fly-tipping. Thanks to Tidy Towns these eyesores are now clean and tidy and can be enjoyed by residents.  I urge locals to be vigilant and ensure that the areas are not used as cheap dumping grounds again. Please keep them clean for the rest of the community. Take your litter home and dispose of it responsibly” she added.

The Welsh Assembly Government funded Tidy Towns Project supports the people of Wales to improve the quality of their local environment, and over the next 3 years it is hoped that the project will lead to a Cleaner, Safer and Tidier Wales.  In addition to the work undertaken by contractors, Keep Wales Tidy employs a dedicated project officer for each local authority in Wales. They encourage communities to adopt their local area and assist volunteers to undertake a range of environmental improvement projects to bring neglected areas back into community use. Typical projects include; litter picks, footpath work, creation of wildlife/garden areas and habitat management.
