PEMBROKE DOCK TOWN
COUNCIL SUPPORTS 9 YEAR OLD WITH HIS DREAM TO PLAY FIRST CLASS RUGBY.

Hywel Baker from Pembroke Dock who attends Pembroke Dock Community
School was today presented with a cheque for £100 by the Mayor of
Pembroke Dock towards the costs he is to incur so that he can join other
members of the Pembrokeshire Under 11 Rugby Team on their end of year
tour to Barcelona. Each member of the team has been asked to raise £400
towards the cost of the tour. The presentation was held at today
(Wednesday 15th October 2008 ) at Pembroke Dock Community School
assembly with the kind permission of Anthea Finn acting head
of school
Hywel is
9 years old and along with Oliver Lewis from Cosheston is a member of
the Pembroke Dock Harlequins Rugby Football Club under 11 team and both
are members of the Pembrokeshire Under 11s Team. Both Hywel and Oliver
started playing rugby when they were 7 years old and gained their County
under 11s cap in 2007. Hywel as well as being a rugby player is a member
of Pembroke and District Amateur Swimming Club. In deciding that Hywel
should be given this financial support the Mayor of Pembroke Dock,
Councillor Ron Watts pointed out that Hywel had achieved a very high
standard in just over 2 years as a player and the fact that he is still
only 9 years old is an indication of his talent in his chosen sport. He
went on to say that Hywel was a credit to the young people of Pembroke
Dock and the Town Council had recognised this in making this financial
donation.
