Flying Boat Centre ‘taking off’

The UK’s unique Flying Boat Centre is set for ‘take off’ - at Pembroke Dock.


The centre, which includes a well equipped workshop, opens to visitors for the first time on Saturday 27th June.

It is located in a former Royal Dockyard building owned by Milford Haven Port Authority, which is hosting the Flying Boat Interpretation Centre project for the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust.

This project has received funding from the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013 which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). This is administered locally by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Run by enthusiastic volunteers, the new centre will open five days a week, Tuesdays to Saturdays inclusive, from 10 am to 4 pm. Entry is free. For further details call 01646 623425.

In addition to displays on many aspects of flying boat operations, major parts already recovered from sunken Sunderland T9044 - which sank off Pembroke Dock in 1940 - will be on view. Conservation work on the parts will continue at the centre.

A formal opening will take place in the autumn.
