CD-ROM just a Walk in the Park ( plus 200 more!)

Stretch your legs and broaden your horizons – that’s the invitation from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority as it launches a new CD-ROM of walks in the Park.

Take a walk in the Park, which contains more than 200 walks, was launched on Wednesday by Paul Davies, AM for Preseli Pembrokeshire, at Trefin.
The CD-ROM can be viewed free of charge at libraries, health centres, community centres, post offices and Tourist Information Centres across the county. The same information and more is on the Authority’s website at
www.pcnpa.org.uk/walking

Mr Davies AM walked part of a route which takes in Trefin village and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, along with Park Authority Officers, Members and partners, plus representatives from local community groups.

“It’s extremely important for everyone to be able to access our fantastic landscape, both people who live in Pembrokeshire and visitors. This CD-ROM will help people to do that, they will receive lots of information and I hope people will use it to take part in walks and improve their general health and wellbeing,” Mr Davies said at the launch.

Take a walk in the Park provides interactive and updateable information, including distance and average duration on each walk; public transport and features to look out for. A simple OS map extract can be printed off to take on the walk.

The walk routes – many of them circular - are maintained by the National Park Authority, which is committed to encouraging and promoting access for all.

National Park Authority Chairman Cllr Simon Hancock added: “We very much hope this CD-ROM will encourage more people to discover and enjoy the spectacular landscape of their National Park. There are walks here for people of all ages and abilities; many of them suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

“The CD-ROM provides an opportunity not only for tourist operators to easily access and promote the benefits of walking and the routes available in the Park but is also an invaluable free resource for communities, local groups and health service providers in Pembrokeshire.”

Most of the walks are based on public rights of way, which give access mainly to privately owned farms. The National Park Authority is grateful for the co-operation of local farmers and landowners in managing these public paths.
